Podere La Tona
Originally from Bolzano and, after many years travelling the world for business and sport, I fell in love with the maremman countryside where in 1974 I had the opportunity to buy il Podere La Tona. At the time it was “just” a facinating ruin surrounded by brushwood in an as yet little known and appreciated Maremma.
The farmouse takes its name from its previous owner : Franchesca, known as “Tona” (yes, in Maremma you keep the nicknames your given).
I built the road and renovated the two ruins, and with the help and guidance of the neighboring farmers, I planted the olive trees that today form the olive groves surrounding the property (and produce excellent extra virgin olive oil).
In restructuring the building, I chose to exclusively use the highest quality materials, with particular attention to the environmental impact and sympathetic to the local landscape. I chose to bury the cables for the telephone and electricity lines to eliminate the poles and wires so that the views could be uninerrupted.
To reduce the ecologiacal impact of the structure I installed thermal solar and photovoltaic pannels, thanks to these the farmhouse is practically selfsufficient in its production and use of energy and hot water.
The Podere La Tona was born of a love of nature and the enjoyment of hospitality, the location is perfect to accommodate lovers of nature and of calm, authentic regions like Maremma.
